Junior Mints were created in the 1940’s by the James Welch Company, manufacturers of iconic American candies such as Welch’s Fudge and those delicious chocolate enrobed caramels known as Sugar Babies.

Industry lore has it that the name derives from Sally Benson stories featured in New Yorker Magazine that were collected into a book called “Junior Miss,” which was made into a theatrical play, and then a radio show.
