One of the first flavors ever created by LifeSavers, wintergreen mints used to cost five cents per roll in 1913. Before anyone really knew of his new product, Edward Nobel –owner of the company and a clever marketer to boot — persuaded the owners of nearby grocery stores to install Life Savers displays next to their cash registers. He then encouraged them to make sure their customers change always included a nickel, as this would increase sales of the new mint confections. His ingenious tactics worked like a charm, and now over a century later, these mint treats are still a sweetly refreshing favorite across the country!
