When we were kids, a red tongue (or a red hand) was a dead giveaway that someone had a box of Red Hots. And that they were going to have to share it with us! The great thing about Red Hots is that they’re just as incendiary as Atomic FireBalls but you can eat them in increments, reaching optimum heat without ever having to take a break. Plus, they’re not just candy — you can also use them in baking, to decorate your gingerbread house (they make perfect doorknobs), as Valentine treats (decorate a homemade card, or pour a handful into a little heart-shaped bag). As kids, we liked to use them to give our gingerbread men measles, but that’s just us.
